HSEQ Compliance Officer

Major Responsibilities
The Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) Compliance Officer is responsible for overseeing HSEQ within the company and for further integrating the program into the corporate culture. He or she will serve as the point person for improving, maintaining and monitoring implementation of the company HSEQ program.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Acts as the company’s chief HSEQ management representative with lead responsibility for on-going development and maintenance of the HSEQ program.
- Works with top management to formulate and establish company policies, operating procedures and goals related to the HSEQ program. Formulates a fiscal budget for the program.
- Keeps management abreast of their HSE obligations. Works closely with senior management to retain the company’s certification per OHSAS 18001-2007.
- Assists the management team in refining and adapting the company’s quality management systems to conform with ISO 9001 requirements.
- Serves as the company’s primary, internal HSEQ auditor and trains other internal auditors.
- Provides leadership and oversight to HSEQ staff in preparing project-specific quality and HSE plans.
- Provides guidance to project managers regarding conformance with clients’ HSEQ contractual requirements.
- Interacts with clients, managers, and technical staff to properly address HSEQ queries and issues.
- Acts as the company’s lead HSEQ representative in third-party audits including those focused on potential acquisitions.
- Defines audit requirements and participates in reviewing HSEQ systems of subcontractors.
- Communicates investigation findings and proposed corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
- Administrative experience required. Must be able to manage a department of four to six individuals while also interacting with members of the company’s management team.
- Thorough knowledge of HSEQ standards, regulations, and proposed legislation affecting the business.
- Experienced in OHSAS 18001 and ISO 9001 management systems. Experience with ISO 17025 including A2LA and AASHTO accreditation programs would be a plus.
- Effective writing and verbal skills--clear and persuasive communication style.
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with broad range of clients, peers, subordinates, and superiors.
