Fugro Consultants Receives Occupational Health and Safety Standard (OHSAS) 18001 Certification
In February 2008, all of Fugro Consultants’ offices (with the exception of our newly established Maryland location) received OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 certification. OSHAS 18001 has been developed to be compatible with the ISO 9001:2000 (Quality) and ISO 14001:2004 (Environmental) management systems standards. Donald Anderson Honored with Two Awards
Donald Anderson was selected from among 275 nominees as one of Building Design + Construction's "40 Under 40" competition winners. The third annual contest, featured in the magazine's January issue, honors forty young outstanding AEC industry achievers.
Donald's other significant achievement - 2008 Young Engineer of the Year! The Houston Branch of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) selected Donald based on his service to the advancement of the profession; significant technical contributions to the profession; and significant service to the community. He was recognized during Houston Engineers Week at the Young Engineers Award Dinner on February 18.
Recep Yilmaz Elected to LSU Hall of Distinction
Recep Yilmaz has been selected as an inductee for the LSU Civil and Environmental Engineering Hall of Distinction. The College of Engineering Hall of Distinction was established in 1979 to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the engineering profession. Criteria for selection include distinguished professional achievement, dedicated service to engineering, and outstanding humanitarian activities.
Recep was honored at The Hall of Distinction Banquet in late February of this year. He will also be featured in LSU’s Engineering News magazine.
Fugro Proudly Welcomes Shiraz Tayabji, Ph.D., P.E. to Our Team
Mr. Tayabji has been actively involved in developing, improving, and implementing technologies for highway and airfield concrete pavements, and in the design, construction, testing and rehabilitation of concrete pavements for over 30 years. He has served as principal investigator, project manager, technical consultant and/or advisor for projects and studies involving evaluation, design, rehabilitation, and long-term preservation of pavements for civilian and military airfield facilities, and highways in the U.S. and abroad. He has also conducted seminars, and served as instructor for courses on numerous aspects of best practices for pavement design and construction for U.S. and international organizations. He has served as a consultant to the World Bank on concrete pavement projects funded by the World Bank. He has prepared over 70 reports and peer-reviewed papers, addressing various aspects of pavement design, construction, materials testing, field evaluation and rehabilitation, published in professional journals and presented at national and international conferences.
Peru LNG Export Terminal
Chincha-Alta, Peru
Fugro Consultants, Inc. has set a new loading record while performing static and dynamic pile load tests for a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Export Terminal on the Pacific Ocean near Chincha-Alta, Peru. A typical static pile test loading is about 300 tons (2,669 kN) for compression tests and about 30 tons (267 kN) for lateral tests, however the static testing for this project required a compression load of 1,350 tons (12,010 kN) and a lateral load of 425 tons (3,781 kN). more...
The Austonian: Tallest high-rise in Austin
The Austonian, which will be the tallest high-rise in Austin, Texas, is scheduled to be completed in 2009. The development will include a tower structure approximately 700 ft. tall, with 56 stories of residential condominiums, and street-level entry commerical outparcels. The construction is part of a new "mixed vertical use" living in downtown Austin. Fugro performed the geotechnical investigation and construction materials testing.
State Highway 130
State Highway 130 is a large roadway infrasture project in Austin, Texas that will provide a "by-pass" around Austin. Fugro has been awarded the geotechnical investigation and pavement thickness design for Segments 5 and 6 consisting of nearly 30 miles of new roadway construction. The on-going geotechnical field investigation consists of some 20,000 ft of drilling and 50 pressuremeter tests. Fugro is working with RocTest and Professor Briaud at Texas A&M to perform the pressuremeter testing which is a recent and emerging soil testing technology for this geologic region.
