ID/IQ Contract, United States Corps of Engineers (USACE), New Orleans District
Fugro Consultants, Inc., is the lead partner of a joint venture that is performing geotechnical studies under a 3-year, $100 million contract related to the design of storm protection enhancements throughout the New Orleans District. The contract is the single largest geotechnical services contract awarded in the United States. The FFEB Team joint venture is comprised of Fugro Consultants, Inc., FMSM Engineers, Eustis Engineering Company, Inc. and Burns Cooley Dennis, Inc.
Assignments under the contract are focused on 350 miles of Federal levees; hundreds of miles of supplementary levees; and a multitude of pump stations, flood walls, floodgates, and erosion armor.
Major engineering challenges associated with the levee system include:

- Slope stability (low shear strength)
- Seepage and piping (high permeability layers)
- Overtopping
- Negative skin friction
- Flooding and storm surge
- Erosion
